Austin Traditional Jazz Society Board Meeting, January 10, 2008
Members present: Malcolm Rodman, Dave Stoddard, Tom Straus, Becky Maddox, Jeff Van Horn, and Nancy-Jane Griffith. Guests: Scott Bailey, Martha Stoddard, Beverly Rodman.
Tom brought the meeting to order. Tom introduced Scott Bailey as a potential new board member--Scott plays trombone and owns a booking agency in San Antonio. The board hopes that Scott will decide to join the board.
The minutes of the November 15 2007 meeting were accepted.
Treasurer's Report: Malcolm distributed the operating statement for 2007-2008. Voluntary donations are down from the previous year; however membership is up. The treasurer's report was accepted.
Jam Session: the annual jam session will take place on Sunday, January 13, 2008. Dave Stoddard has been in contact with players and will coordinate the performance. At the first break, Becky will present Chuck Reiley a plaque for is many years of support for ATJS and traditional jazz. A power point slide show will run during the afternoon, showing Chuck's performances and other jazz-related activities.
Bill Padgett sent an email, indicating that he is working on corporate sponsorships for the 2008-2009 season.
Jim Cullum concert: Becky has confirmed that the Jim Cullum JB will perform on Sunday, March 2 at 2.00 PM at the Cap City Comedy Club. She will check with Jim as to who his musicians will be for the event, so that Malcolm can publicize the line-up. Malcolm passed out a list of jobs that need to be completed before the event and also jobs for the day of the concert.
A decision was made to raise the price of admission to the Cullum concert to $18.00 for ATJS members and $20.00 for the general public. $5.00 will remain the price of admission for students with a valid student ID.
Old Business: There was further discussion that, in conjunction with corporate sponsorship, ATJS must have a written mission statement. Tom and Becky are looking into old records and the board at the next meeting will take up the discussion of the mission statement.
Next Board Meeting: Thursday, February 21, 2008, at 6105 Mesa Dr.
Tom adjourned the meeting at 8.25 PM
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy-Jane Griffith,
