Dedicated to the performance and preservation of Traditional Dixieland Jazz in Austin and Central Texas

Austin Traditional Jazz Society Board Meeting, August 21, 2007

By Nancy Jane Griffith

Members present: Dave Stoddard, Malcolm Rodman, Jeff Van Horn, Becky Maddox, Dan Augustine, Tom Straus, Nancy-Jane Griffith.

Guests: Billie Straus, Martha Stoddard.

Tom called the meeting to order. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.

Treasurer’s report: Malcolm distributed the final report for 2006-2007 and a proposed operating statement for 2007- 2008.

Malcolm commented that our membership has grown steadily over the past year. He reported that he met with Marge at Cap City, and ATJS will continue to call this home for another season.

Malcolm negotiated a 12 percent discount on the dance floor rental for our 8 concerts.

The new ATJS banner was unveiled. The cost was $200.00 and it includes the website address. The durability of the banner and appropriate choice of colors were noted by the Board.

An advertisement for the September concert will be in the Austin American Statesman, and reminder post cards will be sent to all members.

Jim Ivy has notified the board that due to work-related commitments he will be resigning. Jim has agreed to continue maintaining the website until a replacement can be found and trained. The board is actively looking for someone who would be interested in working on the website. The board is also looking for new board members.

New Business:

Becky reported that she has been in contact with Jim Cullum in regards to a future concert, likely in March, 2008, and will be finalizing a concert date in the near future.

The Chuck Reiley tribute was discussed, and a decision was made to set aside the first hour of the Jan. 13 jam for that. Jeff suggested we have a slide show playing in the back ground—Becky will look into that part of the program.

The board voted to reimburse the host/hostess of board meetings $20 for refreshments.

Next Board Meeting:

October 11, 2007, at 5:00 p.m. (Please note the time change.)

Place: 6105 Mesa Drive

Tom adjourned the meeting at 8.15 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Nancy-Jane Griffith
Secretary
