Austin Traditional Jazz Society
Board Meeting: March 29, 2007
Members present: Malcolm Rodman, Tom Straus, Jim Ivy Dan Augustine, Nancy-Jane Griffith Guests: Tom Griffith
Tom called the meeting to order:
Minutes: The minutes of the last board meeting were approved.
Malcolm presented the treasurer's report:
The report was in two phases. The first was the report on the Jim Cullum concert.
Total spent for the event was $5,819.73
The expenses were for advertising, printing, publicity, piano and dance floor rental and concert fees.
Malcolm had spoken to Margie Coyle of Cap City Comedy Club. The club took in $2500.00 in food and beverage.
Funds for the concert were also taken from the clubs educational outreach to sponsor and off set expenses.
It was determined that the concert was a great success and brought in 5 new members and renewed interest in traditional jazz to the general public.
The second part of the Malcolm’s report was the regular treasurer's report. Membership is up and our expenses are on target for the fiscal year. There are three more concerts before the end of the year when a complete financial report will be rendered. The treasures report was accepted.
Discussion on the continued use of Cap City Comedy Club was the next topic. The board feels it would be a good idea to meet with Marge Coyle before the end of the year and after the May 6th concert to see if we can continue to have our events there. It is felt that Cap City has worked out well and the board would like to find a permanent home for our concerts. The board feels we should talk to Marge with a tentative proposal for out 2007-2008 seasons. Malcolm is going to contact Marge on a date in May.
Also agreed upon was the continued rental of the dance floor. The board is going to look into renting for the entire year and see if a lower price can be negotiated. The board felt the rental was in our best interest since the floor is delivered, placed, and picked up. Cap City has no storage facility if we purchased the flooring, we would have to set up and break down.
2007-2008 Season:
Tom will be in contact with Dave and Becky in securing bands for next year. Also it was thought that beginning after Labor Day was better for attendance than the month of August. With Dave and Becky’s knowledge and expertise the board looks forward to their suggestions.
Concerts: The April 15th 2007 concert will feature Aunt Ruby’s Sweet Jazz Babies. This will feature some of the new players on the Austin Jazz scene.
May 6th 2007 will feature Tommy Griffith’s New Orleans Jazz Band of Austin. The last concert which will be held on June 10th is the annual All Stars Band with out of town guest Bob Krenkel.
Next Board Meeting:
June 5th 2007
6105 Mesa Drive
Tom adjourned the meeting.
Respectfully submitted:
Nancy-Jane Griffith
