Board Meeting - March 1, 2007


Members present:

Dan Augustine, Malcolm Rodman, Jim Ivy, Jeff Van Horn, Tom Straus, Nancy-Jane Griffith, Dave Stoddard. Guests: Billie Straus

Tom called the meeting to order at 7.05 PM.

The minutes of the previous meeting with corrections were approved.

Malcolm gave a verbal treasurer’s report.

Cullum concert: Tom addressed the upcoming Jim Cullum concert of March 18, 2007.

Malcolm reported sales of 145 tickets to date.

3 advertisements will appear in the Austin American Statesman.

The cost of the ads were $1,700.00

The band cost $3500.00

The piano rental $350.00

The dance floor rental $270.00

Printing and postage $400.00

Tickets prices will offset the expenses. Until after the concert we will not have a firm number for costs.

Volunteer Assignment:

Becky sent a written report.

Greeter’s--Front door--Budge Mabry, Ann Cunningham

Programs--Inner door--Billie Straus, Martha Stoddard

Ticket desk--Tom Straus, Nancy-Jane Griffith

CD Sales--Dan Augustine, Jeff Van Horn

MC-- Dave Stoddard

Ushers and greeters inside--Becky Maddox, Bobbie Mabry

Tables will be reserved for Doctors of Jazz and Butter and Egg Men/ Woman. Also for a group of 18 from Georgetown. Otherwise seating is based on first come.

Award: Tom and Billie will bring Beverly Wisdom to the concert, where an award for her years of commitment to ATJS will be presented. Tom has asked Becky to write a short biography of Beverly’s service to ATJS

It was also agreed that Dr. Chuck Reilly should be given emeritus status for his years of service.

New Board Members:

Discussion on recruitment of new board members—Names of possible new board members were presented and will be perused by board members to determine if those individuals have the time and commitment for consideration.

Other Business:

Tom informed the board about the Texas Music Museum, and suggested we explore our participation in jazz music.

Grants:

Nancy asked about grants and Tom will provide her information in perusing this project.

Web-Site:

The web site looks good, with the continued commitment from Jim. Jim will add information on Jazz Festival at Sea to the website.
