Board Meeting - January, 25 2007
Members Present: Tom Straus, Malcolm Rodman, Jeff Van Horn, Dan Augustine, Becky Maddox, Dave Stoddard, Nancy-Jane Griffith.
Guests: Billie Straus, Martha Stoddard, Tom Griffith
Tom Straus called the board to order. The minutes of the last board meeting, with corrections, were approved.
Malcolm gave the treasurer’s report.
The Account Balance/Member’s Equity is $18,418.64
Tom proposed and the board accepted Dave Stoddard as ATJS’s Vice President
Malcolm gave the report on the recent jam session. The board agreed and accepted that we would continue to rent a dance floor for the amount of $275.00 Malcolm also reminded us that the board has a plaque to honor former board member Beverly Wisdom and that we are hoping that she will be at a future concert so Tom can present the plaque to her. Becky volunteered to call Beverly to find out if she will be coming to the February 11 concert.
The next order of business was the discussion of the Jim Cullum concert. The Jim Cullum concert will be held on Sunday March 18, 2007, at 2.00 PM at the Cap City Comedy Club, 8120 Research Blvd. Ticket prices will be $15.00 for society members and $18.00 for the general public. Seating will be on a first come-first served basis, with the exception of groups over 8 people, and members who are Doctors of Jazz and Butter and Egg Men/Women. Doctors of Jazz and Butter and Egg Men/Women are included because of their contributions to ATJS for the year 2006-2007. Malcolm will place advertisements in the Austin American Statesmen’s X-lent section Becky and Nancy will help with tickets on the day of the concert. Malcolm is in charge of tickets and distribution up until that day. Sales of Cullum CD’s will be handled by members of the board.
General Discussion:
Becky and Tom discussed the quality of the bands that ATJS brings to our members as the most important part of the society. Tom mentioned the Texas Music Museum and their current exhibit which features The James Polk BPS Jazz program. Tom will contact the museum to inform them of the Cullum concert and let them know that ATJS is alive and well in Austin.
Dan offered to list on the website the titles of books and movies related to jazz. Which are available in libraries, o n the Internet, and elsewhere. Dave, Jeff, and Becky other board members were willing to add titles.
